Week 2: Sowing over Zion’s 2021 Theme: REAP

Scripture Reading: Matthew 9:35-10:1, 7-8
Key Verse: Matthew 9:37-38
37 Then he said to his disciples, “The harvest is plentiful but the workers are few. 38 Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into his harvest field.”

The first step to reap is to pray.

Though there is a large harvest waiting to be reaped, Jesus did not immediately send his disciples out to minister to the people. Jesus taught his disciples to first “ask the Lord of the harvest to send out workers into the harvest field.”

In our zeal to reap, how often have we taken things into our own hands? It seems easier to rush ahead of the Lord of the harvest, instead of first asking him to send out the workers. No wonder we end up frustrated at the lack of fruitfulness.

Or perhaps in our lukewarm response towards reap, instead of first asking God to move hearts to go for Him, how often have we complained about the work or tried to ignore the Holy Spirit’s gentle tugging? No wonder we end up discouraged at our barrenness.

In order to reap, let’s learn to first spend time to ask the Lord of the harvest!

Prayer Points
  • Declare and recognize God’s lordship over His harvest. He cares more about our unsaved love ones than we do.
  • Ask God to guide Zion into deeper dependence on Him. May there be an increased fervency and passion in our prayers.
  • Ask God for hearts to respond in obedience to His call into the harvest field.
