Week 2: Sowing over Zion’s 2021 Theme: REAP

Scripture Reading: James 5:7-11
Key Verse: James 5:7
Be patient, then, brothers and sisters, until the Lord’s coming. See how the farmer waits for the land to yield its valuable crop, patiently waiting for the autumn and spring rains.

The most difficult part in reaping is the wait. Sowing might be hard labour, reaping might be time-sensitive, but waiting takes up the longest period. Corn takes about 60-100 days to reach harvest. Rice takes about 3-4 months. Apparently, asparagus takes 3 years before you can start harvesting them!

Waiting is hard work. Farmers are not just idling around, enjoying a sun tan, and sipping tea while they wait. They have to faithfully tend to the growing crops – watering, adding fertilizers and pesticides, tilling the fields, removing weeds and pests, and monitoring the development of the crop. Patiently repeating these same actions day after day, until the crops have matured and are ready to be harvested. A lapse in these processes might mean having a poor harvest or even the failure of the entire crop.

If farmers know what it means to wait for a physical harvest, what more for God’s labourers who are waiting for a spiritual harvest with eternal implications on the line?

Prayer Points
  • Ask God to grant you patience and to teach you how to wait on Him for your spiritual harvest.
  • Pray for Zion to be faithful and diligent in our care for our spiritual crops, as we wait for the harvest to be ready.
  • Pray for your persons of peace from Day 10.
